The Scotland international has agreed a new deal which extends his stay at Villa Park to 2028.

McGinn, who joined Villa from Hibernian for £2.75m in 2018, is poised to make his 300th appearance in Thursday’s Europa League tie with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The 31-year-old is the club’s longest-serving player and a mainstay of the teams during the club’s remarkable rise from the Championship to regular European football under Unai Emery.

“Three years we were together and in those three years he showed me how he leads the team in all moments,” said Emery.

“Most important is on the field and he has responded very well. He is a versatile player. His commitment here is huge. He is going to be an important player for us going forward.”

McGinn joins Matty Cash in signing a new deal this season with Boubacar Kamara, Lucas Digne and Tyrone Mings also agreeing extended deals over the summer.

Talks are continuing with Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans over new deals.
