The Spaniard has won the competition more times than any other manager and will be targeting a fifth title with Villa this term.

Digne has dubbed Emery the “boss” of the Europa League and admits ending the club’s long trophy drought is among his biggest aims.

Asked about Villa’s prospects by 90 Minutes, he replied: “We have the boss of the competition. Having a coach with a lot of experience like that in this competition is definitely an asset for us and we'll try to make the most of it.

“Aston Villa haven't won a trophy in 30 years. Winning something would be really great. We want to put the club back in its place.

“We've been doing really well for a few years now and we're improving. If we can bring a trophy to our fans, that would be great.”

Digne has made 141 appearances in all competitions since joining Villa from Everton for £25million in January, 2022.

The 32-year-old signed a contract extension through to 2028 in the summer and despite being one of the eldest members of the squad believes his game can continue to improve under Emery’s guidance.

He said: “Even today, he continues to help me progress. He's a coach who really focuses on video, tactical work, and what's happening on the pitch. He doesn't care about the player's age.

“It doesn't matter if you're 18 or 30, he'll want to work the same way, he'll try to give us as much advice as possible.”
