Aston Villa seal deadline day swoop for experienced defender
Villa have completed their first signing of transfer deadline day with former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof joining on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old Sweden international has agreed a two-year deal at Villa Park, with the option for a third.
Lindelof will provide cover and competition in a Villa defence which has been operating with just three senior centre-backs at the start of the season.
Strengthening in defence was among Villa boss Unai Emery’s top priorities in the window and Lindelof, who made more than 280 appearances in eight years with United, is seen as an experienced pair of hands.
The former Benfica star left Old Trafford at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract.
Villa are also on course to sign current United winger Jadon Sancho on loan, while a deal is close to being agreed for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott.
The 22-year-old is expected to join in an initial loan deal which will include a £35million option to buy.
