Aston Villa in talks to sign Liverpool midfielder

Villa are in talks over a potential deadline day deal for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave Anfield as the Reds close on the signing of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

Villa are among Elliott’s big suitors though any deal would likely be a loan, rather than a permanent, due to the financial restrictions they have been operating under this summer.

Elliott has made 147 first-team appearances since joining Liverpool from Fulham in 2019 and was named player of the tournament after starring for England at this summer’s European under-21 Championship.

Villa’s deadline day is expected to be hectic as the club race to get deals done prior to the 7pm deadline.

Former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is joining on a free transfer, while Villa have also agreed a deal to take current United winger Jadon Sancho on loan.

The club are also in the market for a new goalkeeper should Emi Martinez leave for United.

Martinez was left out of Villa’s squad for Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace amid renewed interest from the Red Devils in his signing.
