Walsall 'still searching' but deadline day signings not guaranteed - Mat Sadler

Walsall have been hit by a double injury blow in the past fortnight. Left wing-back Mason Hancock is set to miss "four to six months" with a dislocated knee and underwent surgery on Friday. 

Striker Jonny Stuttle suffered an ACL injury and was recalled from his season-long loan by Premier League side AFC Bournemouth on August 22.

Sadler moved quickly to find a replacement, signing Sierra Leone forward Daniel Kanu on loan from Championship outfit Charlton Athletic on the same day.

There is still scope for further additions before the window shuts at 7pm on Monday, but Sadler insists he is "happy with his squad" if that is not the case.

"We'll keep working but I'm very pleased with the squad. We've racked up a couple of injuries so we'll see if we can reinforce in a couple of areas there," Sadler revealed. 

"The rigours of the division are relentless. Yes, I'm definitely looking into [a left wing-back and striker]. 

"I want to come out of it very strong and it's important if I do sign anyone that it'll be for the right reasons. 

"Whether or not anything comes up that I want - we'll see. It goes crazy now and we just need to make sure we're calm." 

Vincent Harper has filled the void for Hancock at left wing-back, and the versatile Courtney Clarke is capable of covering, although he's better suited to the right, or in midfield. 

Ronan Maher and Charlie Lakin have also previously played there, but Sadler is still exploring the possibility of strengthening in that area.

Elsewhere, Walsall defender Dan Cox, on loan from Derby County, received his first Wales under-21s call-up for their Euro qualifier against Denmark during the international break. 

The Saddlers' home fixture against Chesterfield is still expected to go ahead, with Cox set to be the only international call-up in the Walsall camp.
