'Three or four more': Where West Brom will look next in the transfer market after latest double signing

For Albion, many would say that they have had a pretty decent summer so far.

They have spent on four good signings - and Ryan Mason arguably has a strong squad at his disposal for the Championship campaign.

They have been hit with the blow of losing Torbjorn Heggem - who completed an £9m move to Bologna last week but Albion quickly moved to replace him with Birmingham City's Krystian Bielik.

So, what will happen next and where will West Brom go between now and the end of the window?

Back up goalkeeper

There was a slight bit of talk over this earlier in the window - but since then it has been quite quiet.

Joe Wildsmith's error in the defeat to Derby in the EFL Cup has reignited the debate though - that Albion are light.

Josh Griffiths is the number one now - but for me if a senior goalkeeper becomes available who can be brought in for a small fee, or on a free, it is a no brainer.

Aside from Griffiths and before him Palmer, Albion have had a few questionable periods in the goalkeeping department.

It is something they won't want to happen again.

Full back cover

For some time now Albion have needed more cover at full back - but Mason may have found his back up on one side.

Alex Williams was handed his senior debut in the EFL Cup in the absence of Darnell Furlong.

He did not look out of place at all - in fact, he impressed.

Now he won't be overtaking Furlong any time soon but he no doubt provides capable back up.

On the other side, there is a slight gap. Callum Styles is the first choice - but Albion did have back up their last season with Heggem able to slot in seamlessly.

They've now lost that - and having been linked to full backs all summer it would not be surprising if they do try and cover this area.

Midfield competition

Many believed the arrival of Toby Collyer may spell the end of Albion looking to add midfielders - but it doesn't seem to be the case with reports suggesting they are still keen on Liverpool's James McConnell.

And in a way, it might not be too surprising. They have Alex Mowatt, Jayson Molumby, Ousmane Diakite and Collyer who can play in that sitting role.

They are well stocked, but creatively further forward you could argue they are lighter than last season. Isaac Price is and will continue to be the main man, but if anything happens to him it may present a headache.

Last season, John Swift and Grady Diangana were the two creative 'number tens'. With those both gone, you could argue back up in that area is a priority between now and the end of the window.

Striker

For me, without doubt the most important move Albion could make.

Some may see that as an exaggeration - but you only need to look at the past evidence to see Albion have been woefully understocked in this area.

Most of it has been through no fault of their own but due to having rotten luck through injuries.

However, it is key they avoid it this time.

Aune Heggebo is the current main man - with Josh Maja waiting in the wings and Daryl Dike returning in September.

However, the latter two have had injury concerns since their arrivals at the club. That would leave Heggebo as the only real choice as a centre forward.

And if he is flogged every week - he could end up going the same way as Maja last season, when he played every game until New Year before being ruled out.

This is a difficult area of recruitment there is no doubt about that - decent strikers are hard to find. But Albion need someone who can take the strain off others.
