Mat Sadler hails Walsall's character and bemoans "outrageous" decision in Swindon win

Brandon Comley was dismissed for a last-man tackle on Aaron Drinan and Walsall played over 70 minutes down to 10-men. 

They dug in but Swindon levelled 11 minutes from time when Will Wright converted from the spot, only for Connor Barrett to win it for the Saddlers late on.

"That was mad. To play in those conditions for 70 minutes or whatever it was, and to show all the sides to us that we did," Sadler said.

"Maybe some of the sides that we come to expect, but someone just said to me that the team finished last season, there were 10 new guys that started this game. 

"It shows the team that we are and the collective that we want to work with. I thought the players were outstanding. 

Sadler claimed he didn't have a great view of the sending off, but felt the decision to award a penalty for Rico Browne's challenge on Harry Smith inside the box was "outrageous".

"I haven't seen the sending off, I need to look at that and see that properly because there were a few bodies in the way," he added.

"But I have seen the penalty that was given which I thought was outrageous to be given. Luckily that didn't decide the game." 

Sadler had a big decision to make after the red card, and opted to withdraw Jonny Stuttle and switch to a 3-1-4-1, with debutant Lewis Warrington sitting at the base of midfield," he noted.

"I thought we started the game really well and Evan scored a fantastic goal. I won't forget about that because it was an unbelievable strike and he's got that. 

"That set the day off, but once the sending off happened, I thought we were starting to get a little bit of trouble with putting pressure on the ball. 

"It's always hard when you go down to 10-men. Do you take a centre-back off? Do you still keep both of your strikers on? 

"When we're in the lead with it, you're just trying to weigh all of those things up."
