Villa have firmed up their interest in Jaydee Canvot by making a formal offer for the teenage Toulouse defender.

The bid has not been accepted by the French club but talks are continuing with Villa hopeful of making a breakthrough.

They were among the clubs who watched Canvot, who turns 19 next week, in action for France’s under-20s during the recent Maurice-Revello tournament.

Capable of also playing in midfield, Canvot is considered a major prospect with previous reports in France claiming Toulouse value him at around £17million.

He made 18 appearances in the French top flight last season, during what was a breakthrough campaign at senior level.

Recruiting young talent has become a cornerstone of Villa’s transfer policy in recent years and has further solidified since the appointment of Monchi as the club’s president of football operations in 2023.

Villa have already signed two teenage defenders this summer with young Turkey international Yasin Ozcan completing his move from Kasimpasa, having signed a pre-contract agreement during the winter transfer window.

The club also last week confirmed the signing of Modou Keba Cisse from Austrian club LASK.

Another highly-rated prospect, Cisse will spend the season with LASK on loan before formally joining Villa next summer.
