Mat Sadler pinpoints his transfer priorities for Walsall this summer

Walsall have signed seven new players so far this summer while a further nine have headed for the exit door. 

Sadler has bolstered the wing-back positions with the signings of Courtney Clarke, Mason Hancock and Vincent Harper. 

In attack, teenager Jonny Stuttle has arrived on loan from Bournemouth, with Aaron Pressley also joining permanently from Stevenage. 

Elsewhere, centre-back Harrison Burke has completed his switch from Chester and goalkeeper Myles Roberts has rocked up on loan from Watford.

Although Sadler is pleased with his summer business so far, he has revealed that Walsall are only "midway" through the job of assembling their squad for next season.

"The middle of the pitch. So we need to add a couple more in there and a little bit of depth to that midfield area," he said.

"We could probably do with a couple more defenders as well. We've kind of gone around the edges [of the team] with our wing-backs and we need more depth in the midfield and defence. 

"Let's see where things are after that, but we're just bulking out a bit now with those additional bits of quality that we need.

"We knew that a few were going to leave so it was important to know that we could replace them as soon as we possibly could. 

"There is still work to do. We're probably midway through it but we're pleased so far and it's starting to come together slowly. 

"It's maybe similar to how it felt last season during pre-season where we know there is still a few areas of the team that we need to recruit in. 

"But we're not willing to jump too early because we want to make sure that we get the players that we want to get."
