Farquharson has not featured for Walsall since suffering a long-term thigh injury during a 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers in August last year.

The centre-back, who arrived from Newport County in 2023, has been restricted to just 24 appearances across his two seasons at Bescot, scoring once.

The 28-year-old had recovered from his injury at the tail end of last season, but did not feature during their League Two play-off campaign.

"I am pleased to be staying with the club and I'm looking forward to heading into my third season as a Saddler," Farquharson said.

"There's some unfinished business I feel from last season because of the end we had. We know it wasn't how we wanted our season to finish but we have to use that as motivation moving forward.

“I had my own frustrations last season with my injury but I'm determined to work even hard this year to make sure I make my contributions count even more both on and off the pitch."

Meanwhile, Walsall goalkeeper Sam Hornby has also agreed a two-year contract extension with the club.

Hornby made 12 appearances for the Saddlers last term after joining the club during the previous summer following a successful trial.

"Last season obviously ended in the disappointment of missing out on promotion at Wembley," Hornby added.

"But there were still some incredible memories that were created as a squad and as a whole club, and I'm sure there's areas that we can build going into the new season.

“I'm excited to be working with Dan Still again and pushing on with the rest of the goalkeeping department to make sure we're incredibly competitive going into the new campaign".
