Four Wolves players looking to impress in pre-season

Wolves players and staff will return to Compton Park next week to begin their 2025/6 pre-season programme.

The squad will spend their first few days in Wolverhampton before jetting off to the Algarve for the first of two oversees training camps.

Fer Lopez is the sole addition to the squad, but new faces are expected through the door in the upcoming weeks with Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait Nouri sold to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively.

With Pablo Sarabia leaving the club and Nelson Semedo yet to decide on his future, there will be plenty of opportunity for returning players to make an impression on Vitor Pereira.

Here are four names that will be looking to catch the eye.

Hugo Bueno

Bueno will miss the beginning of pre-season due to his Euro U21 Championships involvement with Spain.

But the defender will be keen to show Pereira that he is the perfect replacement for Ait Nouri.

Bueno had an excellent season-long loan at Feyenoord with many fans and media expecting him to Wolves' first choice left wing-back upon return.

But the 22-year-old will have to show he has both the defensive and offensive capabilities to be a consistent starter in the Premier League.

Bueno will also have to fight off competition from Rodrigo Gomes and potentially a player yet to arrive, with the club actively looking to sign another left-sided defender.

Yerson Mosquera

It's hard to believe, but Mosquera joined Wolves back in the summer of 2021, yet only made his Premier League debut on the opening day of last season at Arsenal.

The Colombian international made five consecutive Premier League starts before injuring his ACL & MCL in the 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa last September.

But Pereira has spoken glowingly of the 24-year-old throughout his rehabilitation and was rewarded with a new five-year deal despite being on the treatment table.

Mosquera should be ready for pre-season and will be looking to get straight back into the starting line-up.

But he will need to show form and most importantly fitness to be a realistic mainstay in the first team.

The centre-back will also have to oust Matt Doherty and compete with Nasser Djiga for a starting berth.

Marshall Munetsi

Munetsi was an important January signing for Wolves and made a big impact in a struggling team.

The midfielder was a consistent starter and showed his versatility playing in a variety of positions.

Some of Munetsi's best work came when playing very close to Jorgen Strand Larsen while Matheus Cunha was serving a suspension.

A final day stunning strike vs Brentford had supporters off their feet, but two goals in 12 appearances should have been at least five.

Munetsi will need to improve his finishing and with Fer Lopez offering immediate competition, the 29-year-old will be hoping to nail down a specific position in the starting line-up.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde

Bellegarde had his best season in a Wolves shirt since his £12.8m move from Strasbourg.

A stunning strike at Nottingham Forest early last season showed the playmaker has a keen eye for goal.

Voted the most improved player of the season by Express and Star readers, Bellegarde enjoyed a purple patch of form midway through the season.

The 26-year-old found a new found confidence and swagger with five attacking returns in six games during February and March.

But Bellegarde tailed off towards the end of the season and had to settle for a place on the bench during the final few games.

Like Munetsi, the Frenchman has good versatility in the midfield and forward areas, but he'll be hoping to nail down a specific position.
