Walsall complete signing of Scottish frontman from Stevenage
Walsall have completed the signing of striker Aaron Pressley from League One side Stevenage for an undisclosed fee.
Pressley, who spent the second half of last season on loan at League Two rivals Barrow, has penned a three-year deal with the Saddlers.
The 23-year-old scored four times during his loan stint in Cumbria, including the opening goal in Barrow's 2-0 win over Walsall in April.
The Scotsman started his career in Hearts' academy before making the move to England to join Aston Villa's youth set-up.
In 2020, Pressley completed a switch to Brentford, and made three first team appearances after initially starting out with their B team.
In addition, Pressley scored four goals in 27 appearances on loan at AFC Wimbledon in 2021-22 and notched a further eight during a temporary stint at Accrington Stanley the following season.
The 6ft 6in striker joined Stevenage in 2023 and netted four goals in 32 appearances in his two seasons at the Lamex Stadium.
“I’ve seen the stadium, seen the training ground and after speaking to the manager about his plans for the season, I’m desperate to get started on Monday and really looking forward to it," Pressley said.
“For me now it’s about working my socks off, putting the ball in the back of the net and hopefully I can be a player that the team really values, not just in possession but out of possession as well.
“In possession, I can really be a foil for the team to play from so hopefully from there I really endear myself to the supporters and they can really get behind myself and the team.”Head Coach Mat Sadler is pleased to further boost his forward line."
Boss Mat Sadler added: “He’s a player that I’ve liked for some time now, not just in the last six months, but I’ve known of Aaron for a considerable amount of time. He worked with a friend of mine at Stevenage and he’s someone I’ve kept a really close eye on over the last 18 months.
“He’s a strong, powerful centre-forward who likes to rough centre-backs up and he comes on theback of a really productive loan at Barrow last season where he really started to establish himself as areal threat for defenders.
“We’re really pleased to get him on a permanent, a three-year contract, and he comes in as another set of the group of young, hungry players that we’ve got at the club that we want to continue to recruit.
“They want to get better, they want to improve and it fits exactly the mould of players that we’re bringing in and the identity of the club.
“I’m really chuffed that Aaron has decided to join us amongst all the other clubs that
