Dave Edwards: Wolves signing an exciting start to the summer

Fer Lopez has completed his Wolves move and I think it's a really exciting signing for the club.

I know a lot of fans want to see more experienced players coming in, and I still fully expect that, because Lopez is not a Matheus Cunha replacement.

I see him more of a Pablo Sarabia replacement, someone who will be in and out of the team, can make an impact from the bench and hopefully take his chance.

As a player, he really excites me. Wolves paid some good money for him, probably the top end of his value at this moment in time, but he has a lot of potential.

His physical size is really good. He's well over six foot, but the way he moves for his size is really impressive and he has excellent balance.

I imagine he'll play as a right number 10, allowing him to come inside on his left foot.

From what I've watched of him playing, he's very intelligent in the pocket of space he picks up, which is great for Vitor Pereira's system. But when he does get into that area, he has good feet, good balance, and can go past the player. Has a terrific shot as well, which I think is really important.

His best characteristics are in the transition. So when Wolves win the ball back quickly, we know that if we can find a player who's got a little bit of pace, which Fer Lopez has, who can travel quickly with the ball, that's when Wolves are at their brilliant best.

I'm not saying he's got raw pace like Pedro Neto, but he definitely moves the ball quickly.

There's so many positives to take from the signing, but we need to be clear that he is a replacement for Cunha, to not put that sort of pressure on Fer Lopez.

I'm sure more bodies will come in those positions. But as a start, as a development player who could potentially really surprise a few people, I think the profile of him is really strong.

Wolves have also had some good news with Mateus Mane set to sign his first professional contract.

There haven't been too many players out of the academy in the last couple of years who've been able to really impact the first team and there's a lot of hope that Mane can be the one to do something.

The way that Pereira speaks about him is quite telling. He said he's definitely going to be with the squad for the upcoming season, which must give him so much confidence and showcases that he believes in him.

From what I hear from people that have worked with him is that he's a lad with immense talent, but most importantly, he works extremely hard.

That's not always the case nowadays with younger players and if you have that, that will really set him apart from any other young players.

I hope he can be the player that breaks into the first team in the coming years, but that's a long way away and this is the next step in that journey.

Meanwhile, the fixtures have been released and they are definitely better for Wolves than last season.

That start was devastating and we saw the effect that had on the season, so it's a bit of a relief that it's quite an enticing opening few weeks where we can put a marker down early on.

There's no better time to play Man City than the first game of the season at Molineux. They notoriously start seasons slow and with the Club World Cup also going on, the players will need a break

Pep Guardiola never wants to continue playing his players, so I expect them to rotate at the start of the season until everyone gets back up to speed and that really helps Wolves.

There are two tough away games at Bournemouth and Newcastle but looking at the three home games in particular, there's a really good chance we could get seven or nine points from those.

Everton and Leeds at home come after City and our form at Molineux under Pereira has been really strong.

It's a chance to get up and running early on because pressure does build when you don't get that first win, like we saw last year.

Also, it will be nice to see Rayan Ait-Nouri back at Molineux so soon after his exit. He's already getting plenty of plaudits for his City performances and we knew he would do with the ability he has.
