Comley played the full 90 minutes on his 23rd international cap and also wore the captain's armband for his country.

However, former Saddlers skipper Donervon Daniels was not included in the squad despite being called up.

Daniels was released by the club last week, after amassing 114 appearances during his three-and-a-half year stay at Bescot, scoring four goals.

Meanwhile, Comley played only 22 times for Walsall in all competitions last term, but surpassed a century of appearances for the club.

Montserrat are still on the brink of elimination at the second qualification round, after they lost both of their opening two games against Group D frontrunners Nicaragua and Panama respectively.

The Emerald Boys needed nothing less than a win to keep their faint hopes of progression alive and Mark Rogers scored the only goal inside two minutes to consign bottom-place Belize to defeat.

After the win, Comley said: "I've been waiting for the opportunity to lead the boys for a long time. I've been coming since I was 20/21 and it is an honour.

"The boys put in an amazing shift today. To a man, they should all be proud of themselves.

"This is the start of something new, it's a very good start, but we have to lock in and stay committed to the cause because we've got another game coming."

In the same group, Liam Gordon is set to be in action for Guyana against group leaders Nicaragua, with the Golden Jaguars just three points adrift of the top two.

They will then conclude their second qualification qualification campaign against Montserrat on Tuesday, as Gordon will be pitted against club teammate Comley.

He has also netted twice and set-up four more in 26 caps for his country.

Elsewhere, Walsall centre-back David Okagbue could be involved for Republic of Ireland under-21s when they face Croatia in an international friendly on Friday.
