The club are keen to keep hold of the defender, who was made club captain this season and is an influential figure in the dressing room.

Head coach Vitor Pereira is also eager to keep a consistent player, who is in his fifth season at Wolves, however the player's wages and the financial package involved in offering him a new deal has been a concern, meaning he has always been likely to depart in the summer.

But Semedo has offered fans some hope when asked if he is still talking to the club over a deal.

“Yes, we’re still in conversations and I think it’s possible," he said.

When asked if it's important to keep the core group together, Semedo added: “Definitely, definitely. I think that's the main point actually, to keep most of the players and we can pass on the way we play.

"They can pass on the way that Vitor thinks as a coach and make the way easier for them (new players) to adapt as quickly as possible so they can like deliver the football and they can only think about football and make good performances."

Semedo has been a ever-present in a Wolves side that has now won six top flight matches in a row - equalling a 55-year record - and is unbeaten in seven.

Pereira has taken a lot of credit for the work he has done in transforming this relegation-threatened side, but the players also had to buy into what the head coach was asking of them and Semedo insists that 'trust' has been crucial.

“We trust in the work we've been doing since Vitor's arrival," Semedo said.

“Obviously we were in a tough position and we had to dig in, we had to battle and to fight a lot to be in the position that we are today, and now things are going well I think we have the luck on our side as well.

“We are confident. With time, obviously, we developed the way that Vitor likes to play and now we're doing it perfectly like we showed today.

“We scored three goals, a clean sheet, even with the penalty that I think is not a penalty, we're doing great.

“We have six wins in a row. I think it's the first time in the history of Wolves (in the Premier League), so we just have to be pleased.

"It's really tough to do that in the Premier League.

"We did it so we have to be proud of that.

“We still have four games to go and we still have a lot to play for."
