"This is proof that the club trusts him" - Wolves defender backed for starring role

Vitor Pereira is excited to see Yerson Mosquera back in a Wolves shirt next season after recovering from his serious knee injury.

The Colombian lasted just five games this season before injuring his medial collateral ligament (MCL) and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) against Villa in September.

He is now back on the grass but is not expected to play this season.

Despite that, the club handed the 23-year-old a new five-year contract last week and Pereira is eagerly anticipating what the centre-back can offer the squad in 2025/26.

"This is proof that the club trusts him," Pereira said of Mosquera's new contract.

"Before I came I analysed the squad and he was a player that pleased me a lot.

"He has the qualities I like to see in a centre-back.

"He's another player that smiles every time and when I speak about smiling, it's not the smile, it's the energy.

"He's positive every time, helping others even when he's injured.

"This is the profile I want in this club."

Wolves are now closing in on Premier League safety with a 12-point gap to the bottom three and just seven games left to play.

The club are likely to lose a number of players in the summer - including Matheus Cunha, Nelson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia - ahead of a potential rebuild.

Pereira, who has been slowly adapting his side to his style of play, says that process is not finished and next season he is targeting a much better campaign for the club.

"You bring an idea and start to work on it," Pereira said.

"You start to convince your players that this is the way and now it's time to create different dynamics.

"Next season, I hope we have most of the same players and we have an opportunity to increase our level.

"The idea is not something that is finished, it is open.

"We are doing things in a different way to when we started.

"My team is confident, consistent and mentally consistent to compete.

"Enjoy, feel happy, have good energy, feel confident and play with respect for yourself. This is the message.

"The strikers here play in the blind side of the defenders and make blocks to win space.

"Here, we can do things that aren't possible in other leagues and the players must adapt.

"We need to adapt and compete, if not you'll go back to the other leagues."
