Walsall issue update on Rico Browne loan search

It was confirmed earlier this month that the Walsall defender had attracted interest from a number of clubs in the National League. 

The 21-year-old, who joined Walsall in September last year, was an unused substitute during their goalless draw against Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.

Browne has made all three of his appearances for Walsall in the EFL Trophy and is still awaiting his League Two debut. 

"There were some that were no longer [loan opportunities] there for Rico but I'm aware that the National League window closes next Thursday I believe," Sadler said.

"I'd expect to see something for Rico before then because we want to see him get games. 

"That's the most important thing and with Donervon [Daniels] and Priestley [Farquharson] on their way back, it does cover us a little bit more in that area"

Walsall have the option to trigger a one-year extension at the end of the season, as part of the deal Browne penned when he joined the club six months ago. 

The Birmingham City academy product had a short-term loan at Tamworth earlier in the season - registering five appearances across all competitions for the fifth-tier outfit. 

Club captain Daniels was named on the bench at Gillingham after spending the past two months out with a calf injury. 

Priestley Farquharson, who has been absent for six months with a thigh injury, is also on the verge of making his comeback.
