Will Lankshear has Championship qualities - a prolonged loan move could benefit West Brom & Tottenham

The 6ft 3 centre forward arrived at Albion during the window - with the club in need of a striker following an injury to Josh Maja.

Albion, who were already on the lookout for a forward before Maja was ruled out for a number of months, then completed a deadline day swoop for Championship goal machine Adam Armstrong.

The move for Armstrong has hit Lankshear's game time, with the striker being limited mainly to appearances from the bench, with his only start coming in the 1-1 draw away at Millwall.

It will have no doubt been a tad frustrating for the highly rated youngster, who Spurs spent £2m on when they took him to London from Sheffield United.

Lankshear, regarded as one of the best young forwards in his age group in the country, has already flirted with the first team set up at Spurs, featuring in European games earlier this season.

He remains under contract at Spurs for another four years, and is very much part of their plans for the future.

And even though Albion fans haven't had too many opportunities to see him in full flow, from what they have witnessed, you can see why he is held in such high regard in North London.

He played a hand in Albion's winning goal on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday, and his combative displays show that he looks like a ready made, capable Championship forward that will no doubt go on to play in the top flight.

In terms of game time this season, his starts will potentially be limited between now and the end of the campaign. Given his goal record, Armstrong will remain as Albion's number one forward, and Lankshear is then waiting in the wings alongside Daryl Dike.

However, even if Lankshear is a bit part player between now and the end of the season, there is an argument to say that a move to bring him back to The Hawthorns next season may be wise.

If Albion were to get into the play-offs and achieve promotion - a striker of Lankshear's ilk may represent a sensible move. He is a young, talented forward who is going to go on to the highest level, but for the moment that won't be with Spurs.

A season with Albion, where he will get more minutes, could be a wise move for all parties.

And the same applies if they remain in the Championship. If they do fail to win promotion, they will go into next season with Maja and Dike still at the club, but with the potential for a young loanee to come in.

They already have one at the club, so depending on how the rest of the season works out, why not bring him back in for next season.

If Lankshear goes on to have a storming end to the campaign, scoring key goals, which he is capable of, then Spurs may want to keep him in the building next season.

Should they want to loan him out again, there may be no better place than Albion, somewhere where he is already getting a prolonged taste of senior football.

For all the hard work that will no doubt go into Albion's recruitment in the summer, this could represent a simple but affective move for sporting director Andrew Nestor and his team.
