Wolves loanee 'learning' amid future uncertainty

Vitor Pereira has revealed Carlos Forbs is 'learning' to fit into Wolves' system amid uncertainty over the player's future.

The summer signing has not played since January 6 and almost left in the transfer window, with parent club Ajax keen to take the loanee back.

A deal was not struck and he remained with Wolves, but has seen his chances limited and he has now been ruled out with illness.

Pereira admits he is fond of the 20-year-old but says he does not fit into Wolves' attacking system and must learn to play as a wing-back if he wants any more minutes this season.

"I like his personality a lot and he has good skills," Pereira said.

"But Carlos is a player, to play in our system now, that cannot play inside because he doesn't feel comfortable.

"He needs to play on the sides, one against one, he's fast.

"But to defend in our system he must do things that he doesn't feel comfortable doing.

"He cannot do what Rayan is doing in this moment, to go and come back, because he's not a player with these qualities.

"We had a conversation together and he will try to learn how to defend in our way and I will help him to improve his level."

Forbs' loan move will become permanent for £11million after the player has made a certain number of appearances, but it is understood that is now unlikely to be triggered.

Barring a late surge of games this season and a change of fortunes for the Portuguese under-21 international, he is likely to return to Ajax in the summer.

But Pereira was coy when asked about Forbs' future.

"I don't know," he added.

"Life is not like this, today we are here and tomorrow we don't know.

"It's better to go step by step, winning game by game and getting the points to be in the Premier League.

"In the proper time we'll talk about the players, the squad and about everything."
