Wolves boss backs new signing to bring the goals

The £15million deadline day signing from Reims managed 21 goals during his time in France after arriving from South African side Orlando Pirates in 2019.

He could have scored a hat-trick on his Wolves debut in the FA Cup against Blackburn and after an entertaining opening game, Pereira believes the 28-year-old can add a new dynamic to Wolves' midfield.

"He's a player who is a transition midfielder, with the physicality to appear in the box to score and after a few seconds he's in our box defending," the head coach said.

"He has this physicality that we need to be everywhere. He's the kind of player that I appreciate a lot.

"He's a midfielder that scores goals, if you look at his career he's scored a lot of goals.

"The situation he had with the header, it's very normal for him because when the cross comes, he will be there.

"That's what I appreciated when I analysed the player."

It would have been a remarkable start to Munetsi's Wolves career if he had added a debut goal - with one headed chance flashing wide after a fantastic Rodrigo Gomes cross.

The Zimbabwean hopes he can now bring something different to Wolves' strong midfield continent, using his experience to guide this team away from any relegation fears.

He joins Joao Gomes, Andre, Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore, following the departure of former club captain Mario Lemina, in a competitive Wolves midfield.

Munetsi said: “It would have been a dream come true, but we have to save more goals for the upcoming games! 

"I was just happy to do a small part in the win, and hopefully we can continue from here.

“I'm 28 now and there's a lot that I've learned from football, so I think it's the right time for me to showcase it. I was just delighted that they were cheering me on, even though I didn't manage to score.

“But they gave me that energy to try and keep on going, and obviously we have some quality players, they were able to put in some good balls, and we just have to keep on working and looking forward to the upcoming games.”

Wolves visit Liverpool next in the Premier League, before two trips to Bournemouth in the league and FA Cup either side of a home midweek clash against Fulham.
