Vitor Pereira on the restored 'balance' in Wolves' defence
Vitor Pereira believes Toti Gomes' return from injury is vital to add balance to the Wolves side.
The Portuguese international spent a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury before returning to action in the 2-0 win over Villa.
His impressive performance helped Wolves end their losing streak and secure just their fourth clean sheet of the season, as he slotted back into the left side of the back three and allowed new signing Emmanuel Agbadou to play centrally.
And Pereira says having Toti's strong left foot in the side helped give the team more balance.
"It's the left foot, which is important for us," Pereira said of Toti's impressive performance.
"It's important to play on the left side with a left foot because it's different.
"If you play with the right foot on the opposite side as a defender, you have problems because the balance is different.
"When you face a player with the opposite foot, it is worse because sometimes he can go to the line, he can come inside and it's difficult.
"It means that with Toti close to Rayan, we have the cover every time and this is important for us.
"When we build the play from the left side with the left foot, it is different because the first touch is to open the game and we open the solutions to start playing.
"Even when we are pressing, because the pressure from the other team is strong, and we need to find the second or third solution. With the left foot it is better.
"I asked Agbadou to play there but it's not his natural position."
Toti struggled earlier in the season in a back four but was back to his best in Pereira's system.
He is now ready to kick on and keep Wolves in the Premier League after a 'special' derby day win.
“It's very good to be back," Toti said.
"I was watching the games from home or from the stands, knowing that I couldn't help the team, it was difficult for me, but it's really good to come back now and know that I can help the team, and I will always do my best to help this team.
“I feel good, the first 90 minutes back. Of course, you never know how it’ll go, but with adrenaline and everything, and I knew how special this game is, I had to give everything of myself to play the whole game.”
