Wolves set deadline day targets ahead of transfer window closure
Wolves are keen on signing a defender and midfielder before the transfer window closes tomorrow night, the Express & Star understands.
Emmanuel Agbadou remains the only signing of the winter transfer window to date, but Wolves have been targeting another centre-back and new midfielder for some time.
A deal to bring in Lens defender Kevin Danso on loan was agreed before the move was hijacked by Spurs, and Wolves are now working on other targets before the 11pm deadline on Monday evening in the hope of adding one or two more players.
Head coach Vitor Pereira has spoken publicly about his desire to bring in a central midfielder and Wolves were in talks for Ukrainian midfielder Volodymyr Brazhko.
Among a list of potential signings, Burnley's Josh Brownhill is a player Wolves hold interest in.
The 29-year-old club captain is out of contract in the summer and has a number of suitors, after an impressive campaign to date with promotion-chasing Burnley, so far registering nine goals and four assists from midfield.
Wolves have also held a long-term interest in Brownhill after considering him in previous transfer windows.
Due to the restrictions on registered Premier League squads, Wolves may also need to target a home grown player such as Brownhill if they want to add to their squad.
Agbadou will take the place of injured defender Yerson Mosquera, but Wolves currently have no more space for non-home grown players over the age of 21, while they have two spaces available for home grown players after Luke Cundle was sold to Millwall.
The future of Mario Lemina remains uncertain, despite missing out on his move to Saudi Arabia, while injured forward Sasa Kalajdzic could be taken out of the squad to make room for a non-home grown addition before the transfer window closes.
And without any players departing, Wolves may have to make that move if they want to bring in another defender.
Among a number of options, Danish centre-back Thomas Thiesson Kristensen and Burkina Faso international Nasser Djiga are being considered.
Kristensen, 23, currently plays for Italian side Udinese, who he joined in 2023 from Danish side AGF.
He has featured 12 times in Serie A this season.
Djiga, 22, joined Serbian side Red Star Belgrade on loan in 2023 from Basel before joining them permanently last summer.
He has played 27 games in all competitions this season, including all eight of Belgrade's Champions League group games.
