The 21-year-old attacker has been on the periphery during his half-season at The Hawthorns and has started just once in the Championship.
Dobbin swapped Villa Park for the Black Country shortly after his move of around £9million from Everton to Unai Emery’s side in the summer.
But the loan has not worked for either party with Villa thought to be looking at options for the wideman.
Dobbin is not involved for Albion in their New Year’s Day home fixture against Preston - youngster Harry Whitwell is in the squad - and it is believed there is other Championship interest in taking him from Villa Park.
It is understood the loan termination will be conducted from Villa’s end given the terms of the season-long agreement.
Dobbin was a big target of former Albion boss Carlos Corberan during the summer, and the Baggies’ contribution to the Villa man’s wages are believed to be significant.
Dobbin found game very tough to come by due to the form of Karlan Grant and the late £3m summer signing of Mikey Johnston, which was sanctioned towards the end of the window after Dobbin had already checked into The Hawthorns.
