Dave Edwards on Wolves' talisman after big win

What a fantastic day for Wolves which was probably filled with more relief than joy.

To get that elusive first win was huge and with the fixtures coming up you can look at it with a lot more positivity now. In a month's time, the league table could look completely different.

Before kick-off I thought it was a game that was set up for Wolves because of the way Southampton play by trying to keep the ball and they will be open.

With how good Wolves are at winning the ball back and how good they are in transition, I felt they could catch Southampton out in those moments.

I also said the first goal is going to be so key, so to score it so early was amazing for everyone inside the stadium and Gary O'Neil.

It meant Wolves could spend long periods without the ball and there wasn't too much frustration because they had that goal lead.

It was a tremendous goal with Matheus Cunha doing what he does best. It was a great run from Sarabia to finish it off and that set the scene.

We got away with one a little bit with the VAR decision. We've had our fair share of bad decisions and it's about time we got a little bit of luck.

As the first half went on Southampton were dominating the ball and Wolves were just a little bit too passive.

When Southampton got higher up the pitch and they started to get into Wolves' own third, we didn't get players out to engage the Southampton attack quick enough. The balls were coming into the box a little bit too easy and we were causing our own problems.

As a manager, it's really hard when you've got a game plan to get a message on to the team to try and alter that. Once you're in that flow of the game, it's very difficult to change it.

But they came out in the second half and they were so much better and more aggressive in the way they pressed.

It was a big moment to get the second goal to settle everyone down and after that, Wolves were very comfortable.

Wolves handled the situation extremely well because there was so much pressure on the game. O'Neil's team selection clearly had that in mind by going very experienced.

The big talking point before the game was whether Pablo Sarabia was going to start and there were a few eyebrows raised when he was selected.

But he showed his quality within the first two minutes. Sarabia has that calmness to make things happen and although he was frustrated with the Crystal Palace game, he still got himself in those areas to have those chances.

After spending a long time out of the picture, he's done really well.

Another experienced player who was so key was Craig Dawson. He's 34-years-old and playing with an injury, but he was pivotal for Wolves.

Wolves went one-v-one in the second half and Dawson followed his man, was super tight and very aggressive. He won the ball on numerous occasions and when the ball came into the box he got his head on it. He is a leader and was very impressive.

There wasn't a lot in the game but Matheus Cunha was the big difference. We were lucky he was wearing a Wolves shirt and is the club's talisman.

I honestly think that it was one of the best individual performances I've seen in a Wolves shirt in recent years, due to the pressure on the game.

Some players are more worried about not making a mistake, but you need players who will go and make a difference. It's a different mindset.

Cunha did that every time he got the ball. He looked so dangerous.

No team in the bottom six has the attack that Wolves do, They score goals with ease, which is difficult to do in the Premier League.

Gary O'Neil has worked really hard with Cunha to make sure he's in positions where he can hurt the opposition. It's obvious to see the relationship between the manager and the player is very good.

The head coach and his staff deserve a lot of credit for the work they have done with Cunha.

There are going to be times where we need more hard work from him and he's an emotional player.

He reminds me of Bakary Sako. I'd track Sako's men all day long if that meant we could get him the ball and he'd win the game for us.

Cunha is like that as well and we're really lucky to have him. He's a player who could play at the very top of the Premier League. He's going to be the difference which is going to hopefully move us up the table.
