The 18-year-old earned plaudits for his loan spell at AFC Telford United last season where he scored two goals and made seven assists – helping them to stay up.

Now he wants to break into the Wolves first team as they head for the Premier League.

Giles, from Telford, collected the gong at Wolves’ end-of-season dinner earlier this week where other awards were handed out to fellow players, club staff and supporters.

Giles, who joined Wolves aged eight and has come through the academy, said: “It was amazing to collect the award, I think I have come a long way.

“I have been through a lot over the years, especially with injuries, and I think to come out with the award has put the icing on the cake for me. And it is a chance for me to enjoy myself now and kick on for next season.”

Giles is hoping to come back after the summer break in the best shape he can.

He said: “Obviously I am enjoying my time off now.

“I want to come back in the best shape that I can and then just kick on, really, and see what Wolves want to do.

“If that is to stay here (and not go out on loan) then I want to push on and go all the way to the first team.

“I play for Wolves and I want to play for Wolves, so the main objective for me is to kick on and show Nuno Espirito Santo and the head staff that I am ready.”

Giles was sent out on loan to AFC Telford United in March this year where he made a huge impression and picked up valuable experience.

He played nine matches and his performances were instrumental in helping Telford stay up in the National League North, which is step six on the English football pyramid.

Giles said: “I think going out on loan to Telford was a challenge that I needed and I think when it came it was great for me to go out. I played a lot of games and I’m happy to contribute what I did.

“And like I say I thank everyone again for giving me that opportunity to show what I can do.”

He paid tribute to his coaches and the Wolves’ hierarchy for showing belief in him which has helped his performances on the pitch.

Giles said: “I think it is a massive honour that you hear things from the hierarchy, staff and your own coaches as well because it shows that they believe in you.

“And I think their belief has brought the best out of me and all I can do is thank them for that really.”

Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell said: “Ryan is a very exciting talent.

“He is a natural left-footer and there are not many of those about. He has got the ability to get you off your seat.”
