But it was Manchester City striker Ched Evans who stole the show with his hat-trick which earned Wales one of their finest under-21 victories.

The outcome means manager Brian Flynn's side trail European Under-21 Championship Group 10 leaders Romania by two points, but with a match in hand.

Brian Flynn's side had trailed 2-1 to a France side including Newcastle star Charles N'Zogbia and AC Milan first-team midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, before two penalties from Evans and a goal from substitute Mark Bradley derailed the visitors.

The match at Ninian Park had been delayed by 16 minutes due to floodlight failure before the game was eventually played with just one of four still not working.

The UEFA delegate was happy for the game to go ahead but France have lodged an official protest.

Wales were forced to make one charge to their starting line-up which beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-0 at Wrexham last Saturday.
