The bestselling travel umbrella is designed to cope with strong winds while remaining compact enough for backpacks, handbags and commuting

With heavy rain, surprise downpours and gusty summer weather becoming a regular part of British life, a sturdy umbrella suddenly feels less like an optional extra and more like daily survival gear.

That’s probably why more than 100,000 Amazon shoppers have now reviewed the Repel Windproof Travel Umbrella, which is currently down to £19.99 from its usual £29.99 price.

The bestselling travel umbrella on Amazon has earned an “Amazon’s Choice” badge and claims to withstand winds of up to 100mph thanks to its reinforced fibreglass frame and vented canopy design.

Unlike many cheaper umbrellas that collapse or flip inside out at the first sign of strong wind, the Repel umbrella is designed to stay stable during rough weather while remaining compact enough to fit inside backpacks, handbags and car doors.

One of the biggest draws of the compact umbrella deal is its automatic open-and-close button system, allowing users to quickly deploy it during sudden rain showers and fold it away again within seconds.

Amazon shoppers looking for something portable may also like the fact the windproof umbrella folds down to around 11 inches long while weighing under 1.1lb, making it practical for commuting, travelling and everyday carry.

The folding travel umbrella also includes nine reinforced ribs designed to resist bending in strong winds, while the waterproof canopy is intended to dry quickly before being packed away again.

According to the listing, the Amazon umbrella has been tested in winds up to 85mph and uses a vented design to reduce pressure during storms and heavy gusts.

The portable umbrella for travel is available in multiple colours and styles, including navy, yellow, clear and rainbow finishes, although the black version is currently among the cheapest available.

As well as commuters and travellers, the Repel travel umbrella deal could appeal to festival-goers, students, hikers and holidaymakers wanting something stronger than the typical bargain-bin umbrella.

Amazon says more than 1,000 shoppers bought the windproof umbrella deal in the past month alone, with the current price listed as a limited-time offer.
