It could be due to the weather or a change in farming practices in the area or it could be due to the nearby award winning local nature reserve, Alder Coppice. Whatever the reason, Muntjac deer which are often mistaken for large dogs, are now being seen regularly on Northway in Sedgley.

The small deer seem to travel up from Penn Common, pass through the nature reserve and then try to cross Northway to get to the grass banking beyond. Our gardens now possess many tasty morsels for wild animals and it seems they are being tempted out of the woodland reserve. The nature reserve also contains Roe Deer.

We should ask Dudley Council to erect deer warning signs at each end of Northway. An unusual road sign for the Black Country.

The level of misunderstanding and ignorance from Chris Smith in his letter titled ‘No Irony over Trump’s actions’ (02/03), is staggering. His notion that Trump’s ancestors and their fellow travellers from Scotland (his mum) and Germany (his dad) seamlessly integrated into the American culture, denies the obvious historical fact that the European settlers more or less exterminated the indigenous people and thus had no problem with integration.

Maybe for Mr Smith, it was them having ‘other religious baggage’ and ‘questionable work ethic’ that meant they had to be annihilated? It’s only later that the European Americans of ‘Christian background’ pulled up the ladder behind themselves when they introduced visas for the Spanish speakers - ie migrants who sounded and looked differently to them. Maybe if the Anglo Saxon invaders to the Americas had tried to integrate with native Americans rather than gain exclusive control of a land and its people by brutish force we would be living in a more peaceful and hopeful world by now.

I was shocked to hear that the mayor of Church Stretton thinks the people in his area feel threatened by the flying of our national flag. I feel a lot more threatened by people marching around the streets of our towns and cities waving the flags of ISIS, Palestinian Action, and now Iran.

Something is badly wrong in our society when people regard our national flag as threatening, maybe these people could clutch their pearls more tightly until the feeling goes away.

I know that the vote for the Green Party at the last local election was only a protest vote, but after listening to their leader ranting on about their policies I’m on the next boat out here.¶Kenneth Clibery, Lanesfield
