EU security, Brexit claims and prison crisis – your letters, plus a 1978 Great Egg Race picture

Your letters debate Britain’s relationship with the EU, the causes of problems in the justice system and the claims made during the Brexit campaign
EU offers us little security
Mark Pickett says we would have better security as a member of the EU.
Does he not know that Britain was the earliest to send weapons to Ukraine, while the EU did what they do best, just talked about it ad infinitum?
EU is still gridlocked about using frozen Russian assets to lend to Ukraine, it only needs one state to object (Belgium in this case, not Hungary or Czechia who had elections, and came to their senses).
The vast majority of economies in EU are (believe it or not ) in a worse state than Britain is. The name for Britain in the EU was 'Treasure Island', because they got so much money from us to pay new states to join. Strange that most EU member states today would not meet the joining criteria because of the terrible state of their economy, and the EU share of world trade continues to drop like a stone because of over regulation and non tariff barriers. If Britain was to rejoin the EU we would be forced to use the Euro. The Mayor of Britain Andy Burnham has no mandate to even talk about rejoining.

Roshan wrong to blame Labour
Dr Roshan Doug is completely wrong when he blames the Labour Party for the current chaos in the prisons and the justice system.
The real cause of the problem is the Tories’ austerity spending budget of 2010 when massive cuts led to the closing down of prisons and courts of justice. We now have one well-known celebrity who is having to wait two years for his trial to come to court.

Brexit claims were wrong
Correspondent Vicky Bartlett asks what happened to the £350 million per week that was supposedly being saved by leaving the EU, which would then be spent on the NHS.
The answer is it never was that amount because Boris Johnson fiddled the figures and fooled the British people in the process.
The figure quoted on the big red bus was a complete con-trick.
It failed to take into account the money that back back to us in the form of Margaret Thatcher-negotiated treaties, as well as farming subsidies and various building project grants from the European Union.
The actual saving was £160 million per week.
Boris Johnson has a lot to answer for.
