Motorists will not turn to bikes

Pothole nightmare. Concerning my letter on potholes/cycle lanes (March 2), before anyone writes in saying I'm anti-cyclist, I would just like to say that I most certainly am not, and own one myself which I use all year round for leisure purposes, on the road obviously avoiding the potholes!

Colin Hubbard’s letter printed same day hits the nail on the head when he said as we all know cycle lanes are used for residential parking (just take a look at the new one in Willenhall).

The powers that be can waste money on cycle lanes till the cows come home, but they will not encourage drivers to give their comfortable £20,000+ pride and joy up, to get potentially soaking wet and freezing on the way to and from work, absolutely no chance.

Why pay for a TV licence?

If other pensioners are like me they hardly watch BBC programmes on TV apart from the news, so why do we have to pay for a TV licence? Why can’t we just watch the other TV stations? Surely in the world today it must be possible for that to be achieved then the money saved could go towards our weekly food bills.

Shelter needed at train station

You would have thought that following a £13.5million revamp at Wolverhampton’s train/tram station, a bus shelter with perhaps one or two seats, would have been provided.I got soaked recently at the bus stop outside the station, waiting for a replacement bus service with no where to sit or shelter at this windswept location.Although I suppose, if one had been provided, perhaps it would be a home for a ‘drop-out’

Samaritans in Crufts visit

A number of Samaritans West Midlands Regional Branches will be in attendance at Crufts 2026 this week at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre to provide emotional support and raise awareness of the organisation across the region. Volunteers will be present throughout the event, offering a listening ear to visitors and sharing information about the charity’s free, confidential 24/7 telephone helpline 116 123. Please come and visit us.

The Outreach forms part of Samaritan’s ongoing commitment to engage with communities in public spaces and reducing the stigma surrounding conversations about mental health. By attending one of the UK’s largest public events, Samaritan’s West Midlands Regional branches aim to highlight that emotional support is always available — whether someone is facing ongoing challenges or simply needs someone to talk to.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Samaritan’s stand to learn more about the charity’s services, becoming a volunteer or how to get involved locally with fundraising. Press are very welcome to come along and meet the volunteers.

For further information about Samaritan’s services, visit amaritans.org or speak to a volunteer at the event.
