XL Bully contingency destruction order given to Wolverhampton dog owner
A XL Bully owner from Wolverhampton faces losing his pet for not registering it with the Dog Index.
A XL Bully owner has been ordered to pay at total of £1,253 for not having an exemption certificate for the animal.
At a hearing on Friday the bench at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court also made the dog called ‘Rocco’ subject to a two-month contingency destruction order, meaning he will be put down by the police if owner Gary Jackson fails to comply with the rules.
Jackson of Upper Vauxhall off Tettenhall Road in Wolverhampton was sentenced after pleading guilty to an offence of possessing or having custody of a fighting dog on September 26 last year, in Gwynedd, Wales.

For the offence the 35-year-old was fined £120, ordered to pay costs £85 plus police kennel costs £1,000 and the victims' surcharge £48.
He was seen with the dog at the Shell island, in Llanbedr, and checks found he had no certificate.
The court heard that a police assessment found that due to the animal’s temperament Rocco was suitable for a contingent destruction order.
Under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 XL Bully owners must apply to the Dog Index for an exemption certificate and adhere to strict rules to keep them.
The breed must wear a securely fitted muzzle and kept on a lead at all times in public and owners must have third-party public liability insurance to cover death or injury to other people.
