Silos which have dominated a town skyline for years have been reduced to rubble as a multi-million pound scheme to breathe new life into a former factory site gains pace.
The 80-metre high structures on the former British Sugar site, in Kidderminster, have now been completely demolished after work started more than a month ago.
And the remaining debris will now be crushed to specific sizes so it can be re-used in other parts of the development. Discussions are also under way between the St Francis Group, who is carrying out the scheme and Worcestershire County Council on the layout of new roads around the site.
Positions and levels of the roads are being considered with the legal and design work expected to take around two or three months to complete.
Bosses today said once this was complete they would look at plans for the construction of buildings at the site. It is hoped re-development of the 67-acre site will eventually bring hundreds of new jobs to the town and help boost the area's economy.
A new link road is also planned to go through the site which will link the Stourport Road and Worcester Road. Spokesman for the St Francis Group Andy Plant said work was progressing well and clearance of the site was entering its final stage.
The site will become the South Kidderminster Enterprise Park.
