Sharon Jeavons, who has been in catering for many years, officially launched Top Hat Cafe in Hagley Road, Oldswinford, on Friday July 10.

It was a dream come true for the 68-year-old who said she visited a psychic medium who told her during a reading in January that her dad, who died nine years ago, had a message for her - “to find premises and turn her dream into reality”.

Shortly afterwards she spotted premises to let in Oldswinford - the former Martin Hill Interiors shop - in Hagley Road and set about realising her ambition.

Sharon, aged 68, said she believes her dad Sid, who ran motor trade businesses in the area for many years, was watching over her and would be very proud to see what she has achieved.

Originally from Dudley, Sharon - who now lives in Hagley - said: “I was already doing buffets. I’ve always worked for myself. I opened a cafe at Merry Hill 20 years ago and I had a shop in the old arcade in Stourbridge about 40 years ago. But I went to see a psychic in January and she said your dad says ‘you should open a shop’ and the this one came up and I got it. It all happened within a week.”

She spent about 12 weeks renovating the premises before opening the doors to the Top Hat Cafe to customers as a kind of soft launch and on Friday July 10 she held an official launch celebration for the business - which she has been running with the help of family and friends.

Sharon told the Express & Star she’s had some “really good” feedback to date about the new venture and she said: “It was the right shop in the right place at the right time.”

Top Hat Cafe serves up teas, coffee and other refreshments, along with freshly-made cakes, afternoon teas, homemade quiches and grazing boards to share. It can also be booked for private events such as birthday celebrations and baby showers.

Sharon said she wanted to create a place where people can enjoy good food, good company and that offers a personal touch.

“It’s a place to slow down, enjoy homemade food, and feel truly at home,” she said.
