Wombourne restaurant beats stiff national competition to win top award
A Wombourne based curry house has scooped the Best Restaurant award in a prestigious ceremony held in London's West End.

Wombourne Tandoori beat restaurants from all over the country in the Curry Life Awards 2023.
The awards celebrate the elite in the UK's multi-billion-pound curry industry and featured 44 awards across five categories: Editor’s Choice, Best Restaurant, Best Takeaway, Best Chef and Best Recommended Restaurant.

They attracted an audience of more than 500, including beer magnate Lord Karan Bilimoria, who founded Cobra Beer and is a current House of Lords member, and representatives from headline sponsor Just Eat.
Other guests at the red carpet event included Paul Scully MP, Minister for London, Tech and the Digital Economy and Steve Double MP, Member of the Parliament for St Austell and Newquay and Government post of Government Whip, Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury.

Rafique Miah, who runs the front of house operation and his brother, Shafik, who manages the kitchen, started the restaurant in High Street, Wombourne in 1986.
They have seen the children and grand-children of original customers come through their doors and during lockdown started a takeaway service which has thrived ever since.
Rafique said: "“We can't believe we’ve won this award and we were thrilled to hear our names read out! It’s such a privilege to have won and we’re just so thankful - it’s inspired us to keep going and make the business even better.”
