And they were not the least bit surprised when she marked her 103rd birthday with none other than a bowl of her favourite breakfast cereal.
Sue Neal, assistant resource centre manager, said: "Elsie eats two to three bowls of Weetabix a day and covers them in lots of sugar and a bit of milk.
"She loves her Weetabix, she simply can't get enough of it. She doesn't just eat it for breakfast but sometimes for lunch and supper as well. I think her Weetabix helped her to reach 100 and go beyond.
"She celebrated with a bowl of Weetabix but the staff threw a party for her. She really enjoyed herself."
The residential care home has written to Weetabix telling the company of Mrs Thomason's love for the cereal and it has confirmed she is the oldest consumer of it in the country.
It is set to acknowledge her love of the cereal by sending her a personalised Weetabix bowl and a certificate.
Dan Herrin, consumer services manager for Weetabix Limited, said: "We are delighted to hear Mrs Thomason loves Weetabix as much as she does.
"We believe she is the oldest consumer of Weetabix in the country. We shall be writing to her and will be sending her a certificate and her own Weetabix bowl."
Former cleaner Mrs Thomason has three children, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Members of her family as well as staff and other residents helped to celebrate yesterday's milestone.
Mrs Thomason said: "I eat Weetabix all the time because they are lovely. I have been eating Weetabix for years and years and I will carry on. I just love it."
