A man who made a hoax phone call to police claiming it was "about to kick off" in the centre of Wolverhampton days after the riots has been jailed for seven days.

Mark Williams, aged 43, from Redwood Road, Walsall, made two calls from a phone box in Queen Square, the city's magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Roger Bleazard said: "In the first call he warned that people were milling about and ready to riot before phoning again to say it was about to kick off."

His defence said he had trouble with alcohol. He admitted the offence.
