Bosses of a South Staffordshire pub are celebrating after it was named the best in the district.

The New Inn was awarded the Pub of the Year accolade by a panel of judges from the Campaign for Real Ale.

Manager Tony Jones said he was "delighted" to win the accolade. "It's the first time we've ever won this award," he said.

"We had no idea we were in with a chance of winning. Our ambition is to be the best in the area." Mr Jones, aged 51, runs the pub in Station Road, Wombourne, with wife Carol. They have been running the venue since 2004. Mr Jones said the judges had been im-pressed with the quality of food being served and the warm welcome they received.

"We try to be good value for money," Mr Jones added. "We do a lot of food and try to make ourselves a bit different from other pubs." Mr and Mrs Jones threw a party for their regulars on Monday to celebrate.
