Automatic doors at Wolverhampton's new £22.5million bus station which broke down were working today after the fault was fixed.

Doors at each of the Pipers Row station's stands, which should remain shut until a bus arrives, were jammed open yesterday lunchtime.

They were restored to working order in time for rush-hour last night.

Centro spokesman Mark Langford said the emergency mechanism for the doors had been activated accidentally by workmen fitting out the new Sainsbury's supermarket at the bus station complex.

At the old station people had to cross between stands in front of moving buses using zebra crossings.
