Birds rescued in Wolverhampton flat fire
Two budgies were rescued from a flat fire in Wolverhampton.
The birds were carried to safety by firefighters, after an electrical fault sparked a blaze in a ground floor flat in Leverton Rise, off Stafford Road.
A neighbour raised the alarm but there was nobody in the property when the fire broke out.
Crews from Wolverhampton and Fallings Park were called at around 4.30pm today.
Crew commander Shaun Dakin said: "The damage was quite extensive to the kitchen of the flat.
"The budgies were fine though."
