'We're terrified, suffocated by crime': Wolverhampton residents fearing for their lives after latest attack

Residents near the Wolverhampton park are living in fear following a stabbing incident, adding to a series of violent attacks.

Locals of Wolverhampton’s West Park have said that they are ‘terrified’ of living in the area following the latest in a long-running string of attacks.

The most recent violent incident to take place around the park saw a 45-year-old man left in a ‘non-life threatening condition’ after being knifed at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 20.

Two people were arrested by West Midlands Police following the violent attack: a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder and a 45-year-old 34-year-old man on suspicion of threats to kill.

However, the arrests haven't helped to ease the minds of residents living near the park, who have now said that yesterday’s attack is ‘just another stabbing’ in a ‘long-running’ string of violence.

Speaking with the promise of anonymity, one woman, who lives near the area, said: “We’re terrified, the level of crime here is suffocating.

“It’s just constant. It’s one thing after another; you can’t breathe for it. I really regret moving here now.”

In October 2025, a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg in Peel Street Car Park, less than four minutes away from the scene of Wednesday’s attack. Residents say they are tired of the constant crime.

Melissa Hughes, aged 31, of the area, said: “It’s tiring. We’ve never had a year where there hasn’t been something to worry about.

“If it’s not stabbings, it’s shootings. Or just fights or being broken into. The area is terrible.”

Other residents worried that they would be the next to fall victim to the repeated crime.

A resident who didn’t want to be named said: “You are constantly looking over your shoulder. I wouldn’t walk around here at night.

“You just worry that you’ll be the next victim. It’s only a matter of time before some criminal comes for you next.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact West Midlands Police via their 101 number, quoting log 4754 of May 20
