Wolverhampton money saving expert reveals six phone apps that can save you a small fortune
Expert Amy Grayland provides you with a round up of apps that will save you money.
From making extra money to overpay your mortgage and getting paid to play games, to an app with guaranteed to work discount codes, there’s a useful app for everything these days.
Sprive
Sprive is a free app that allows you to overpay your mortgage through a variety of ways. Firstly, you can set up the auto save feature, that will allow the app to work out what it thinks you can save and it’ll take that from your bank and you can use this to over pay your mortgage. The app also has a gift card feature, which allows you to buy e-gift cards and then use the cash back from those to over pay your mortgage. And most recently, Sprive has added a feature where you can take online surveys to earn extra money to put towards your mortgage.
When using an app like this, it’s important to ensure this app is suitable for you and to check your mortgage terms to see if you can overpay, and if so, how much.
Voucher codes
Voucher codes is a brilliant free app and website that helps you to source current discount codes, that actually work. Plus they have brilliant bonus offers such as a free £5 voucher when spending £35+ at Dunelm (this is an example offer, offers regularly change). And every Wednesday, and sometimes Friday too, they do a ‘windfall offer’ which is a brilliant way to get much more for your money. Previous windfall offers have been offers such as a free £20 amazon gift card when spending £20+ at Look Fantastic, and a free £15 amazon gift card when spending £20+ at Dunelm. These windfall offers are great for grabbing a gift, and then with the bonus voucher getting someone else’s gift, or stocking up on essentials.

Everup
Everup is an app I’ve recently come across and am thoroughly enjoying using. This is a fab cash back app, with brilliant rates such as 4.25% at Tesco and 3.35% at Morrisons (rates are subject to change and do vary regularly). While you can’t withdraw your cash back as cash yet, you can withdraw it on to gift cards and, unlike other apps, there’s only a £1 threshold so it’s quick and easy to reach this and be able to use it. Everup also has the bonus of offering “coins” on the app, alongside the cash back, these “coins” can be used to play daily games and win either more coins, or money into your Everup account.
Bower
Did you know that there’s a free app that will pay you to recycle? The Bower app does just that. You simply scan your recycling into the app before popping it into the recycling bin, and you will be rewarded. You can choose to withdraw the money to your bank account, or you can donate to charity. An easy and convenient way to make a little bit of extra money.
Dusk
Dusk is an app that will give you a free alcoholic drink everyday, yes you read that correctly, every day! But there is a slight catch in that the app is busier in some areas than others, in particular it’s busier in big cities. Drinks on the app can vary, sometimes it’s cocktails, sometimes beers and sometimes spirits. You can claim one drink per customer, per day. This is a fab app to enjoy a cheap catch up with a friend, or have a nice freebie on your city break to keep costs down.
Basket
On the Basket app, you save your wish lists to the app by copying the links to the products you want to purchase, and the app will notify you when the price drops on this item, taking the work out of constantly checking for you. This is a fab and easy way to make sure you’re getting a brilliant price for the item you want. You can categorise your wish lists to stay organised too, and you can share wish lists with others which is helpful for events such as weddings and baby showers.
I hope these apps are a useful tool for you. Moneysavingamy.
