Wolverhampton locals have their ‘one-word say’ about their city
We asked Wolverhampton locals to describe their city in as few words as possible - and the answers shocked us
For a bit of fun on a sunny day, we decided to visit Wolverhampton’s high street to see what locals think about their city.
However, we decided to jazz it up a bit, and instead of a whole sentence, we asked them to describe their city in either one or as few words as grammatically possible.

Now, whilst we can’t in good conscience type many of the words people chose to use, what we can say is we weren’t prepared for some of the answers.
Shockingly, they were a mixed bag; whilst many people said the borough was ‘down and out’, many others said that ‘it’s our city’, and expressed a sense of pride, despite thinking that improvements could be made.
Of the 14 people we asked, 10 replied to our question negatively, whilst four others said otherwise.
One person we asked, not quite sticking to the ‘one word’ rule, said: “It’s on the up and up”.
What these answers gave us was a quick-fire snapshot of the real opinions of residents on the street.
The average opinion is that the city isn’t doing too well in our residents' eyes, with many people using one-word expletives (we will leave the words used to your imagination) to describe the city.
However, whilst many people took the chance to hate on our lovely Wolverhampton, many more said that it’s still ‘our home’.
Again, not sticking to the ‘as few words as possible rule’, one shopper said: “There’s words I don’t want to use... But it’s still our home.”
