Wolverhampton Central Library's children's section to close - here's why

The refurbishment will include redecoration, new flooring, shelving and furniture

The Children's Library at Wolverhampton Central Library is set to undergo a refurbishment, with the revamped space expected to reopen in time for Christmas.

The children's section will temporarily close from 2pm on Saturday, October 31, ahead of improvement works getting underway next week.

The refurbishment will include redecoration, new flooring, shelving and furniture, aimed at creating a brighter and more modern environment for youngsters and their families.

While the work is carried out, a limited children's library service will remain available on the first floor of the building.

Popular activities including the Chatterbooks Reading Group, Saturday Storytime and Lego Club will also continue as normal.

Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Wolverhampton Council's cabinet member for health, wellbeing and community, said: "Our libraries play a vital role in supporting children and families, and in helping to foster a lifelong love of reading at an early age.

"These improvements will create a brighter, more welcoming and accessible place where children and young people can enjoy books, take part in activities and spend quality time with their friends and family.

"I'd like to thank customers for their patience while the improvements are completed, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the refreshed Children's Library as soon as possible."

The refurbished section is expected to welcome visitors back before Christmas.

Library membership is free, with further information available at www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/libraries or by calling 01902 552025.

Anyone with questions about activities during the refurbishment can contact Central Library on 01902 552026.
