Willenhall Market set for new look as modernisation plans set to start
The makeover aims to create a more attractive, safer and better equipped market
Willenhall Market is set for a transformation, with work due to start soon to create a modern, welcoming and sustainable market for traders and visitors.
The market’s existing temporary stalls will be replaced with a new courtyard-style layout featuring 12 permanent stalls, complemented by newly-fabricated, branded pop-up stalls.

Leaders at Walsall Council say the new stalls will provide a more consistent and attractive look for the market, with a unified Willenhall Market identity helping to create a stronger sense of place.
The permanent stalls will also provide traders with better facilities throughout the year, including during the winter months, while the new pop-up stalls will provide flexibility for additional traders, seasonal businesses and special market events.
Councillor Nicky Barker, deputy leader of Walsall Council, said: “These improvements mark an exciting new chapter for Willenhall Market and will help create a market that is more attractive, safer and better equipped for the future.
“Markets play an important role in bringing people into our town centres, supporting local traders and creating places where communities can come together. By investing in new permanent stalls alongside flexible pop-up spaces, we can create a market that is able to attract new traders while supporting those who are already part of the market.”
The improvements will also create a safer environment with improved stall structures and reducing potential trip hazards and problems caused by stalls being affected by poor weather.
The project is being funded through the UK Government’s Community Regeneration Partnership (CRP) funding, which is supporting projects that aim to strengthen local communities and economies. The improvements form part of wider investment and regeneration taking place across Willenhall.
Work is expected to start on Tuesday September 1 and will take place in phases, with the market continuing to operate throughout the improvement works.
The new-look market will also be supported by a dedicated team of market operatives, helping to ensure it is well-managed and provides a welcoming experience for visitors and traders.
The council is encouraging new and existing traders who are interested in being part of the new-look Willenhall Market to get in touch, or to find out more see the council’s website.
