Ellie Wills captured the footage of the fire, which crews believe started on the balcony. Another video shows the fire damage to the building.

The brigade responded at approximately 11.55 and the first crew arrived at the premises in under five minutes. They initially used breathing gear to tackle the smoke.

The service was also being supported by Sandwell Council, West Midlands Police and the ambulance service as part of a multi-agency approach.

Residents living at the site have been given guidance as to what they should do.

It is too early to define the cause of the fire and the matter is in the hands of the fire investigation team.

Crews will remain on the scene into this evening. Members of the public are being reminded to avoid the area to allow the emergency services space to deal with the incident.
