Major Staffordshire road set to close at weekday nights for Interchange works

A major section of road is set for night time closures to allow for works for the new West Midlands Interchange.

A major section of road in Staffordshire near the new West Midlands Interchange is set to close over night for a week to allow for works to take place.

The A5 Watling Street will close overnight for four nights between M6 junction 12 and the A449/A5 Gailey Roundabout to allow for BT cabling work to take place across the carriageway.

The works will start on Tuesday, May 26 at 8pm and run from 8pm to 6am each night until Friday, May 29, with a diversion route in place down the A449 southbound carriageway onto the M54 Junction 2, then from Junction 1 onto A460 to M6 Junction 11.

A spokesman for West Midlands Interchange said: “We will be excavating trenches across the carriageway, installing underground cabling, and reinstating the road surface, to install BT cabling across the carriageway.

“This work will require a full road closure of the A5 between M6 J12 and A449/A5 Gailey Roundabout from 8pm to 6am each evening.”
