Watch: World Cup optimism grows in Staffordshire after heroic England defeat Mexico
Is football finally coming home?
Optimism is growing among football fans in Lichfield after England's impressive round of 16 victory over Mexico, with many now believing the Three Lions have a genuine chance of lifting the World Cup.
The Express & Star took to the city centre to ask residents whether they stayed up to watch the match and what they made of England's performance.
Tristan Cooper, 40, from Armitage, said the late night was more than worthwhile.

"Yeah, I stayed up to watch it," he said. "It was definitely worth staying up. They played really well. It was obviously very difficult, but they got the job done."
The result has boosted his confidence ahead of the quarter-finals.
"I think so," he said. "Brazil losing to Norway makes it feel like the tournament has opened up for everyone. I think we've got a good chance now. I reckon we'll get to the semi-finals."
Asked the question on every England fan's lips – "Is it coming home?" – his answer was simple: "Yeah, of course."
Steven Nailer, 71, from Lichfield, was equally impressed by England's display in the 3-2 win on Mexico’s home turf.

"I thought they played truly brilliantly," he said. "The goals were fantastic and they kept their positioning well. Mexico was a big threat, but we managed to do it, and that's the main thing."
His prediction for the rest of the tournament was even bolder.
"We're going to win it," he said confidently.
And when asked whether football was finally coming home, he replied: "Yeah, it certainly is, without a doubt."
Among those sharing their thoughts was Chris, 42, who now lives in Norway with sons Elliott and Phin. While they admitted to having divided loyalties ahead of England's upcoming clash with Norway, they were full of praise for England's performance against Mexico.

"It was the best performance I've seen by an England team in a World Cup," Chris said. "They were together, they fought hard, created loads of chances and coped with difficult conditions. They played against the referee, against the crowd and then with 10 players. It was really impressive."
Although the family will be supporting both nations in the next round, Chris still believes England can go all the way.
When asked whether football is coming home, the group answered together: "Yes!"
With confidence building and belief spreading through Lichfield, England's victory over Mexico has given supporters renewed hope that this could finally be the end to 60 years of hurt.
