Man who handled £5,000 of stolen equipment belonging to Walsall construction firm ordered to do unpaid work

A man who handled more than £5,000 of stolen construction machinery belonging to a Walsall company has been ordered to do unpaid work.

David Hill, aged 35, had a Whacker Neuson reversible plate compactor - used for compacting asphalt or soil - and a Leica Rugby 620 laser measuring tool in Shrewsbury on September 1, 2023.

The tools belonged to SRG Groundworks, a Walsall-based construction firm.

Hill, of Watts Drive, Shifnal, pleaded guilty at Telford Magistrates Court to handling stolen goods.

Magistrates ordered Hall to do 55 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.

Hill was also ordered to pay £199 to the court, made up of £85 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
