Five more flagpoles installed at Brownhills Miner Island - flags will be raised this month

"We look forward to formally raising the flags later this month”

Five additional 6.5 metre flagpoles have been installed at Brownhills Miner Island.

The flagpoles were installed during the weekend of August 15 and 16.

The flags will be raised at a formal flag-raising ceremony that is planned for later this month,

The display already features the Union Flag, St George's Cross and the Black Country Flag.

This follows, three flagpoles that were installed on the Miner Island in May 2026 ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Brownhills Miner statue.

Brownhills ward councillors, Councillor Josh Dixon, Councillor Aysha Nizamoglu and Councillor Pete Sutton, said, "The Brownhills Miner is an important symbol of the town's heritage. To reflect this, we’ve worked closely with the local community to develop a managed display on the Miner Island that reflects the pride people have in Brownhills in a positive and lasting way.

"The installation of these additional flagpoles marks another important milestone for the project and builds on the work already completed ahead of the Miner's 20th anniversary earlier this year.

"We're proud to be delivering this initiative in partnership with the community, creating a lasting way to celebrate Brownhills' heritage while ensuring the island remains safe, well-maintained and welcoming for everyone.

"We look forward to formally raising the flags later this month and marking another milestone for this much-loved local landmark."
