Walsall mum goes to 'Infinity and Beyond' to bake life-size Buzz Lightyear cake

A creative mum has gone to "Infinity and Bake-yond" to celebrate the new Toy Story movie - by making a life-size cake of BUZZ LIGHTYEAR.

Lara Mason spent 75 hours crafting the 5ft 3ins (1.6m) replica of the stellar character out of vanilla cake and rich chocolate ganache.

The mum-of-two also attached electrical retractable wings which were baked inside the icing.

The famous space character also features flashing lights and noise effects - featuring his iconic 'To infinity...and beyond' catchphrase.

Lara, who has been baking remarkable life-size cakes for 13 years, said: "Everyone has been blown away by this one. Even before they realise that his buttons work and his wings open.

"It was no easy task to get the wiring and buttons all working for the sounds and the laser, but I managed it thankfully.

"My husband was the brains behind the wings. I have no idea how he made them work so well but he did.”

Inside are around 50 layers of vanilla sponge slathered in a rich chocolate ganache.

Lara, 39, baked the cake over a five-day period at her home in Brownhills, near Walsall.

It was then sliced up and delivered to foodbanks across the West Midlands areas of Pelsall, Cannock and Chadsmoor.

Lara said she made her latest creation of the Disney-Pixar character to celebrate the announcement of the release of Toy Story 5.

Her previous creations have included replicas of Taylor Swift, The Grinch, Stitch, The Grinch and Deadpool - winning praise from actors like Ryan Reynolds and Jim Carrey.

Lara's videos of the cake build have since reached nearly six million people across her Lara Cakes social media platforms.
